Sofia Hayat is British Asian actress, singer and model. She came into limelight when she hosted her own show on Sky Channel, Zee TV for three years. She has done films like THE UNFORGATTABLE, CASH AND CURRY and EXITZ. She has also worked in TV series. Sofia is debuting in Bollywood with DIARY OF A BUTTERFLY. GlamGold met the beauty for tete-e-tete.

GG) Tell us about your background.
SH) I am a British citizen, daughter of divorcee couple. My dad is Zammurrad and Mom Suraiya. I have done BA Honors in performing arts and music from Brighton University.
GG) You always wanted to become an actress?
SH) MY Mom is nice singer. I am also a singer and had passion for acting also so started from very young age. I have grown up with watching Bollywood films. I have written a song at the age of five.  I wrote, directed and acted in my musical play called “Life After Death” at the young age of 17.
GG) What was your family’s reaction for choosing acting as career?
SH) They were against it. I come from a strict Muslim background. You read my autobiography DISHONOURED where I have wrote : I dared to live my life the way I wanted…so my parents set out to have me killed.
GG) So you are a rebellion…
SH) You can call me a rebellion but rebel with good cause. I am a self made woman.
GG) How did you get Hindi film DIARY OF A BUTTERFLY?
SH) I t was by fluke. I got a facebook message from producer Rakesh Sabarwal. I did not take it seriously but he gave reference of Ronnie with whom I have done CASH AND CURRY. So I listened to him. I talked to Ronni and also with Taz of Stereo Nation. Then I decided to sign the film.
GG) Was this your first Bollywood offer?
SH) Before this film I have received an offer. It was having my lead role. But the characterisation was not good and I felt it was only for using my beauty. So I rejected.
GG) Tell us about the film and your character.
SH) DIARY OF A BUTTERFLY is totally woman oriented film. I am playing Carol. It is very strong character. Carol is a business woman running a spa having many employees. She is successful in business but failed in personal life.
GG) How was your experience working in Hindi film?
SH) I feel good not knowing anybody when I come on the set for shoot. That time I am Carol and not Sofia. Acting is your work. You have to fall in love with your art.
GG) How was your experience working with Udita Goswami?
SH) Udita was nice to work with. I use to tell her about Hollywood, teach her American accent. She use to talk about Bollywood with me.
GG) What difference you feel between Hollywood and Bollywood?
SH) In Hollywood they see your training, experience then give you work. Here anybody can become actor.
GG) Will you like to play negative role?
SH) Why not? I have already played negative role in CASH AND CURRY.
GG) What do you think about sexy image?
SH) It is not bad. What people look as physical beauty is actually empty. Internal beauty is real.
GG) What kind of roles you will like to play?
SH) I need bigger challenge. I want to play something different without make-up where I can show my talent.
GG) What is your next move?
SH) I am planning to make a Hindi film based on my biography DISHONOURED. I will be playing lead role. There will be two heroes, one Indian and the other will be foreigner.
